CAN 2021: the French government to the rescue of African players?

The cry of alarm launched by various players in African football and relayed in particular by the UNFP , has finally been heard! While French professional clubs refused to release their African internationals, relying on a FIFA circular authorizing them to take this measure as soon as the period of isolation that applies to their return to selection exceeds 5 days, the French government announced on Saturday that it finally agrees to exempt the players concerned from the period of isolation under certain conditions.

“The Ministry of Sports confirms that internationals returning from official competition outside the EU with their national, French or foreign team are exempt from the septaine as soon as compliance with a strict health and medical protocol is guaranteed (bubble + daily PCR test when returning to the club) . They will therefore be able to train and play without the application of a seven-day period, ” indicates L’Equipe, confirming the information initially disclosed by beIN Sports Mena .

With this decision, the state puts French Ligue 1 internationals, authorized to travel to Kazakhstan, a country outside the European Union, on an equal footing, and players of other nationalities. On the other hand, Canal + and RMC report a second condition which will pose more of a problem since the selections concerned will obviously have to commit to repatriating their internationals to France via a private flight on their return. If this information is confirmed, all the federations will unfortunately not have the means to act in this way, even if some stars will be able to get their hands on the wallet …
