A few hours after the publication of leaks to this effect, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed this Friday that the draw for the group stage of the CAN 2023 qualifiers will be held on Tuesday April 19, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. GMT.
The 48 selections entered will be divided into 12 groups of 4. The first two from each pool will join the final phase, which will take place from June 23, 2023 to July 23, 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire.
Regarding the playoff schedule, CAF has also confirmed that two days will take place in June 2022 (against 4 initially planned), two more in September 2022 and the last two in March 2023. The 5 African representatives qualified for the World Cup 2022 will thus have the opportunity to organize two preparation matches against selections from other confederations next June since 4 dates are available in total on this slot.
