Team Ghana lost out yesterday on the Points Cycling Competition at the 24th Summer Deaflympics in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil with over 40 cyclists taking part in the Roadrace.
Team Ghana was represented by Michael Ofosu and Richard Kofi Stuff, practically they did well but couldn’t make it to the medal zone. They did a 500m * 60 laps making the course 30km.
So many countries couldn’t finish the race as the Cyclists were reduced to 10 in the final 15 laps and the Ghanaians were unfortunately affected. The race was eventually won by Team France, Portugal and United States of America.
Team Ghana had the largest fan base at the Cycling grounds and a family of 5 Brazilians drove all the way from Belo Horizonte to Caxias Do Sul just to support Team Ghana Cyclists. The family spent 3 days driving to Caxias Do Sul and were very happy to see Team Ghana too, after the race they presented juice and bread to the Ghanaian Cycling Team led by Mr Amadu Musah – Coach, Mr Jonathan Amuah, Michael Ofosu,Richard Kofi Stuff and Cecil Stanley Nii Teiko Tagoe.
Team Ghana was so grateful to the family for this kind gesture.
Team Ghana medal hopeful is in the Athletics or Beach Volleyball which has one team qualifying into the quarter finals.
The support base from all Athletes and Officials here from Ghana is so amazing and the exposure given to the Deaf Sports Team is superb. I will like to say a big Thank You to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Hafiz Adams and the Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif for helping these athletes to get here and participate in the 24th Summer Deaflympics in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil.
