Water Polo Clinic Ends in Accra.

The Ghana Swimming Association in conjunction with Nana Asante Sefa-Boakye and friends has organized and briefed the media about another Water Sport called Water Polo at the Legon Pool yesterday.

The Clinic was to educate, teach and play the game of Water Polo and it was all fun and learning about the game. There were four teams that participated in this exciting test training and they are Awutu Winton SHS Water Polo Club, Legon Sharks Swim Club, Accra Arts Centre Beach Water Polo Club and Sogakope River Water Polo Club.

Coach Asante who has immense knowledge in the game and has played it to the higher level taught about how to play, the technical aspects and how it is also officiated.

A team needs 13 players but it’s only 7 that can start the match with others on the reserved bench and when a player commits a foul in water,he or she has violated a rule so must sit out for 20seconds whiles the opponents will have a man advantage.

During the test trial ,Awutu Winton SHS(Team Yellow) showed that they have been playing for sometime went into the finals with Legon Sharks(Team Black) who were only taught the morning before the trial but only to lose the final against Awutu Winton.

One of the organisers John Kwame Bordebo who is a swimmer, coach and Executive Member of the Ghana Lifesaving & Diving Association which shares same domain as the Ghana Swimming Association also elaborated that really this game has come to stay.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the clinic will be in Kumasi to teach also some schools about Water Polo and I will be bringing you all the news about it.

The programme had its own sponsorship come from Rima Therapy Centre who made sure none of the Athletes got injured with massage and were also fed by Breakilicious Restaurant inside East Legon also gave all the participants food to eat after the event.

Coach Asante, John Kwame Bordebo, Enoch Nortey, Sammy Young, Coach Henry and Ekow did a great job to organise the Clinic and moving on Water Polo will be a great sport for the young ones to play. The vision is to organise a men’s and a women’s league which will be named The Okumfuo Anokye League for the men and The Yaa Asantewaa League for the women.
