Ghana is hosting the Africa Cup of Club Champions and the first match of the day was between Zamalek club and Wazalendo club in the Men’s affair.
Zamalek club has prestigious records when it comes to Hockey on the African Continent and they started well with much incursions into the final half of their opponents, it wasn’t surprising when they broke the deadlock in the 8′ through Ahmed Ali Metwall.
Wazalendo Club were unsettled with the first goal of the competition against them but they built their self confidence and threw the game to the hockey players from Zamalek. It was a first half of chances missed and good excellent play by both sides to end it in favour of Zamalek.
The second started well for Wazalendo as they got the equalizer through too marksman Mbeda Wycliffe to put some spark into the match but the players from Zamalek showed experience and fine display to notch the winner in the 55′ by Basha Mahmoud.
It became a ding dong battle till the umpire whistled to end the match 2:1 in favour of Zamalek Club from Egypt.
