Ghana’s back-to-back Accra Basketball League champions, Braves Ladies, finished fourth at the 2026 West Africa Women Basketball Championship organised by the Louis Edem Foundation.
The Ghanaian side enjoyed an impressive start to the competition, winning four of their opening five games before their campaign ended with consecutive defeats in the semi-finals and third-place playoff.
Braves Ladies opened their campaign on August 3 with a commanding 47-25 victory over Dolphins, before continuing their winning run with a 54-25 triumph over Showtyme.
The Ghanaian champions maintained their dominance in their third group-stage game, cruising to an emphatic 82-25 victory to strengthen their position heading into the knockout stage.
Their impressive run continued in the quarter-finals, where the Ghana Revenue Authority-backed side produced another convincing performance, brushing aside Bayelsa Whales 82-37 to book their place in the semi-finals.
However, Braves Ladies met a strong challenge in the last four on August 7 when they came up against Elephant Girls, one of the leading sides in FIBA Zone 3. They proved too strong on the day, defeating Braves 68-35 and ending the Ghanaian side’s hopes of reaching the final.
Braves Ladies were therefore left to battle for third place against Victoria Queens, but suffered another narrow defeat, going down 54-48 to finish fourth overall.
Despite missing out on the podium, Braves Ladies can take plenty of positives from their campaign, having recorded four wins from six matches and scoring heavily throughout the tournament.
The fourth-place finish comes after the side’s continued dominance on the domestic scene, having won the Accra Basketball League title back-to-back, and further underlines their growing presence on the regional basketball stage.
