Hockey coaches in Ghana are undergoing a two-day training programme aimed at upgrading their technical skills and improving player development and team performance.

The programme, organised by Hockey Farm Sports in partnership with The Athletic Agency and the GRA Sports Unit, led by Ebenezer Frimpong, began on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

Speaking on the first day, Ghana Hockey Association Technical Director Richard Abaidoo stressed the importance of professionalism, efficiency and proper planning in coaching.

He noted that the training had equipped participants with knowledge in documentation, record-keeping and performance evaluation.

“We have learned new approaches to documenting our work, keeping proper records and evaluating our performance. These are important aspects of coaching, and we look forward to learning more on the second day,” Abaidoo said.

He also urged coaches to work together as a unified body to strengthen player development and improve the standard of hockey in Ghana.

The training covered pre-match planning, player development strategies, player behaviour on and off the pitch, and other technical aspects of coaching.

The programme is expected to conclude on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with the aim of strengthening the capacity of coaches across sporting disciplines to improve performance in local and international competitions.
