CAF 2nd Vice President and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has visited the Black Princesses in Poland as the team puts final preparations in place for their opening FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup game against Ecuador.

Mr. Okraku, who used the visit to assure the team of the GFA’s continued support, urged the players and technical team to seize the opportunity to make history by advancing beyond the group stage for the first time.

Speaking to the team, Kurt Okraku recalled a conversation with head coach Charles Sampson ahead of the tournament and explained why he considered the opening game particularly important.

“A few days ago, I was in a chat with the head coach and I promised that I was going to join him for what I think is the most important game for us, which is the first game.”

“For me, the first game is the most important, because if we start well, chances are that we will do well. History tells us that this team has always been here”, he said.

Ghana are making their eighth appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, however, despite their impressive record of qualification, the Black Princesses are yet to progress beyond the group stage. The current squad will therefore be hoping to break that long-standing barrier and write a new chapter in Ghanaian women’s football.
