Exchequers Assert Title Ambition with Week 4 Victory

Defending champions Exchequers sent a strong message to their title rivals with a dominant performance in Week 4 of the Salpholda Hockey League A, brushing aside Legonknights to keep their championship charge firmly on course.

Exchequers took early control of the contest, opening the scoring in the 8th minute through captain Akaba Elorm, who finished clinically from open play. The champions maintained their attacking rhythm and doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Shadrick Quarcoo found the back of the net, also through a field goal, to give Exchequers a deserved advantage at the break.

The defending champions returned from halftime with clear intent and greater urgency, stretching the Legonknights defence and capitalising on penalty corner opportunities. Nortey Jesus and Raphael Agyapong both converted from set pieces to complete a convincing victory that further strengthened Exchequers’ push to retain their crown.

Speaking after the match, Exchequers captain Akaba Elorm praised their opponents and highlighted his team’s discipline and tactical execution. “Legonknights are a team that came into the league about ten years ago, and they have improved massively. You can see it in the way they are now able to compete and even draw games against some of the big sides, including Police. Today’s match was not easy at all, but we remained focused and came into the game with determination,” Elorm said.

“We stuck strictly to the coach’s game plan, moving the ball, keeping it simple and choosing the right options, and that is what resulted in the goals. Everything the coach emphasised during training was implemented on the pitch, and it showed in our performance. Credit to my teammates for staying disciplined, trusting the process and executing the plan throughout the game.”

The result keeps Exchequers firmly in the title race as the league gathers momentum.
