Azamati Marks Stunning Comeback with 100m Heat Victory at Commonwealth Games

International Sports

Ghanaian sprint sensation Benjamin Azamati announced his return to top form with an emphatic victory in his men’s 100 metres heat at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, crossing the finish line in a blistering 10.00 seconds to secure qualification for the next round.

The victory comes as a major boost for Team Ghana after Azamati was forced to miss the 2026 African Athletics Championships, hosted in Accra, due to injury. His absence was a significant setback for the host nation, making his return on the Commonwealth stage all the more remarkable.

Showing no signs of the injury that ruled him out of the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra, Azamati, running from Lane 5, powered to victory in Heat 5 of the men’s 100m in 10.07 seconds to book his place in the next round of the Commonwealth Games.

With both Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu progressing after impressive heat victories, Ghana’s hopes of a strong showing in the men’s 100m have received a significant lift. The duo will now look to carry their momentum into the semi-finals as they chase Commonwealth glory for the Black Star nation.
