The second week of the English Premier League season delivered another action-packed round of football, with 32 goals scored across 10 matches as several teams continued their strong starts while others were left searching for answers.
Manchester City set the tone on Friday night with an emphatic 4–1 victory over Crystal Palace, producing another dominant attacking display. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a header from Antoine Semenyo’s delivery before Rayan Cherki doubled the advantage nine minutes into the second half.
Palace briefly threatened a comeback when Yéremy Pino’s free-kick struck the crossbar and bounced into the net off City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, Cherki restored City’s two-goal cushion in the 59th minute before Haaland completed his brace 25 minutes later, sealing a convincing win for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Liverpool were forced to settle for a point at Anfield after a dramatic 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest. Dan Ndoye gave Forest the lead in the 24th minute, but new signing Alexander Isak levelled for Liverpool shortly after the break. Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s advantage from the penalty spot before Víctor Muñoz struck in the 82nd minute to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.
There was late drama at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth and Everton also drew 1–1. Alex Scott put Bournemouth ahead shortly before half-time, but James Tarkowski rescued a point for Everton with a stoppage-time equaliser in the 91st minute.

Hull City maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory away to Coventry City. Substitute Liam Millar scored in the 82nd minute after being released by Mohamed Belloumi, giving Hull their second consecutive victory following their impressive 2–0 opening-day win over Manchester United.
Newcastle United added to Tottenham Hotspur’s early-season struggles with a 2–0 victory in north London. Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s lead 10 minutes later, leaving Spurs without a point or a goal after their first two matches.
Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion produced the weekend’s most entertaining contest at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues eventually prevailing 4–3 in a seven-goal thriller. Chelsea raced into a 3–0 lead through Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto and João Pedro, but Brighton fought back through Malick Yalcouyé and an unfortunate own goal off João Pedro to make it 3–2.
Cole Palmer restored Chelsea’s two-goal advantage with a superb finish in the 74th minute, but Brighton continued to push and Pascal Grob scored deep into stoppage time. The late effort was not enough, however, as Chelsea held on to maintain their perfect start.

Manchester United also bounced back in spectacular fashion at Old Trafford, overcoming an early setback to defeat Ipswich Town 5–2. Leif Davis gave Ipswich a shock lead in the 29th minute, but Bruno Fernandes equalised before the break and then took control of the contest after half-time, completing his hat-trick as United turned the match into a comfortable victory.
Elsewhere, Sunderland secured their first win of the season with a 1–0 victory over Fulham, with substitute Wilson Isidor scoring in the 75th minute after being set up by fellow substitute Habib Diarra. Leeds United and Brentford shared the points in a 1–1 draw, with Kevin Schade and Dominic Calvert-Lewin finding the net.

The final match of Week 2 saw defending champions Arsenal continue their perfect start with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park. After a goalless first half in which Emiliano Buendía came close for Villa with an effort that clipped the crossbar, Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, finishing from close range after Eberechi Eze and Riccardo Calafiori combined to create the opportunity.
Villa pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Arsenal remained composed defensively to secure another three points. The result leaves Villa without a point or a goal after two matches, while Arsenal join Manchester City, Hull City and Chelsea as the teams with perfect records.
With 32 goals scored across the 10 matches, Week 2 once again proved that the Premier League remains full os surprises, late drama and unforgettable moments.
