Ghana’s Golden Shuttlers have recorded their first victory at the 2026 BWF World Junior Championships in Cairo, Egypt, bouncing back from three consecutive defeats with a commanding win over Algeria in the Mixed Team Relay competition.

The Ghanaian youngsters, who had earlier suffered defeats to Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and Azerbaijan, showed character and determination to return to winning ways against an Algerian side that had recently caused them heartbreak at the continental level.

Ghana entered the contest with an added sense of motivation, having been denied a place in the final of the All Africa U-19 Championships by Algeria.

The Golden Shuttlers wasted little time in asserting their dominance, winning the opening game 55-24 before sealing the second game 55-29 to complete a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria.

The result provides a timely boost for Ghana as they continue their campaign at the global junior championship, with the team eager to build momentum after a difficult start to the competition.

The Mixed Team Relay format sees players compete as a team across the various badminton disciplines, with the combined results determining the outcome of the tie.

Ghana will now turn their attention to Austria, who they will face on Thursday at 9:00am Egyptian time (6:00am Ghana time).

The Golden Shuttlers will be hoping to carry the confidence from their Algeria victory into the encounter as they seek another positive result on the world stage.
