Ghana’s women’s 4x100m relay team saw their Commonwealth Games campaign come to an end after finishing sixth in their heat with a time of 50.75 seconds on Saturday, August 1, in Glasgow.
The quartet of Deborah Acheampong, Anita Afrifa, Evonne Britton and Lovina Ewusi showed remarkable determination to complete the race despite suffering a costly baton drop during one of the exchanges.
Although the mishap dashed their hopes of challenging for an automatic qualification spot, the Ghanaian athletes recovered quickly, collected the baton and crossed the finish line to ensure the team registered an official time.
Their effort, however, was not enough to secure a place in the next round as they finished outside the qualification positions.
The result brings an end to Ghana’s women’s sprint relay campaign at the Games, but the team’s resilience in finishing the race despite the setback was a testament to their fighting spirit.
Ghana’s attention now turns to the remaining athletics events, where Team Ghana will be hoping to add to its medal tally before the curtain falls on the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
