International Sports

Ghanaian sprint star Joseph Paul Amoah booked his place in the men’s 200m semifinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after producing an impressive performance to win Heat 1 with 20.36 seconds on Wednesday at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old looked in complete control throughout the race, powering off the bend before maintaining his speed over the closing metres to cross the finish line first and secure automatic qualification for the next round.

Amoah, one of Ghana’s leading medal hopefuls in athletics, once again demonstrated why he remains among Africa’s elite sprinters. His smooth execution and strong finish will boost confidence ahead of the semifinals as he targets a place in the final and another Commonwealth Games medal.

The Ghanaian, who won bronze in the men’s 200m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and claimed African Games gold on home soil in Accra in 2024, will now shift his focus to the semifinals, where he will aim to continue his impressive run in Glasgow.
