Ghana’s hopes of another athletics medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games received a spirited effort from Rose Yeboah, who finished sixth in the women’s high jump final after clearing 1.82m on Tuesday in Glasgow.
The reigning 2023 African Games gold medallist battled against a strong field of Commonwealth high jumpers but was unable to progress beyond her closing height of 1.82m, ending the competition in sixth place.
Yeboah entered the Games as one of Ghana’s leading medal contenders following her impressive rise in African athletics, highlighted by her historic gold medal at the Accra 2023 African Games, where she thrilled home fans with a dominant performance.
Although she narrowly missed out on the podium in Glasgow, the Ghanaian star once again demonstrated her consistency on the international stage, adding another commendable performance to her growing résumé.
Her result contributes valuable points and experience for Team Ghana as the athletics competition continues, with several Ghanaian athletes still in contention across track and field events. Despite missing out on a medal, the 23-year-old leaves Glasgow with her reputation intact and will now shift her focus to upcoming continental and global competitions as she continues her pursuit of greater heights for Ghana.
Ghana’s athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games remains alive, with Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, and other Team Ghana athletes still aiming to secure medals in team events before the Games conclude.
