The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has congratulated the Ghana Badminton Association and the country’s athletes for a historic medal-winning performance at the 2026 Badminton Grand Slam, where Ghana claimed gold, silver and bronze in the Women’s Doubles event.
The remarkable achievement at the Borteyman Sports Complex saw Ghanaian players dominate the Women’s Doubles podium, securing all three medals and producing one of the country’s most impressive performances at an international badminton competition.
The GOC praised the athletes for their dedication, discipline and fighting spirit, describing the feat as a major boost for the development of badminton in Ghana.

GOC President Richard Kofi Akpokavi congratulated the badminton team on what he described as a historic success, saying the performance reflects the rising standard of the sport and the hard work of the athletes and the Ghana Badminton Association.
The competition brought together athletes from 38 nations, with participants battling for valuable Olympic qualification points. Ghana’s outstanding showing in the Women’s Doubles event consequently placed the country among the leading nations on the medal table.
The three-medal haul is particularly significant because it demonstrates the depth of talent available in Ghanaian women’s badminton. Winning gold, silver and bronze in the same event represents a rare and powerful statement of the country’s growing strength in the discipline.
The GOC said the achievement also provides encouragement ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where Ghana hopes to make a strong impression.

The Committee further expressed confidence in the Ghana Badminton Association and its athletes, assuring them of continued support as they build on the momentum created by their historic performance.
The success at Borteyman has given Ghanaian badminton plenty to celebrate and, more importantly, has shown that the country’s women’s doubles players can compete and win on the international stage.
