Ghana’s national women’s rugby sevens team, the Ghana Rugby Eagles, have safely arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, ahead of the 2026 Africa Women’s Sevens tournament scheduled for November 7–8.

The team departed Accra last night and arrived in the Kenyan capital this morning, completing their journey ahead of the highly anticipated continental competition.

Following their arrival, the Eagles have begun acclimatisation and preparations as they look to make a strong impression against some of Africa’s best women’s rugby teams.

The two-day tournament will take place at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, with 11 nations expected to battle for continental honours and a qualification opportunity for the World Rugby SVNS 3.

Ghana have been drawn in Pool B alongside hosts Kenya, Tunisia and Egypt.

The Kenyan side, known as the Kenya Lionesses, will pose a major challenge, having previously won the continental title in 2018. However, the Ghanaian team will be determined to compete strongly and improve on their previous performance.

The Ghana Rugby Eagles Women enter the competition ranked seventh in Africa, following their seventh-place finish at the previous tournament.

With preparations now underway in Nairobi, the team will be hoping to build the necessary momentum, confidence and team cohesion before their opening matches.

The 2026 Africa Women’s Sevens presents another important opportunity for Ghana to demonstrate its growing commitment to women’s rugby, compete for continental recognition and strengthen its position on the African rugby stage.

All eyes will be on the Ghana Rugby Eagles as they prepare to represent the nation in Nairobi on November 7 and 8.
