Ghanaian athlete N Vanee Anchike made her mark on the Southland Conference this weekend, capturing silver and bronze medals across two middle-distance races at the 2026 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Houston.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley junior ran 2:10.41 in the 800-meter final to finish second, then returned Saturday to clock 4:14.41 in the 1500 meters, earning third place in what amounts to a breakthrough performance at the conference championship level.

The performances in Houston cap a stellar outdoor season for the Kumasi-born runner. In April, Anchike set a new UTRGV program record in the 800 meters with a 2:03.00 clocking at the Bryan Clay Invitational, erasing the previous mark and signaling a new level of performance.
She also ran 2:05.57 at the Michael Johnson Invitational earlier this year, keeping her name on the scoreboard at major collegiate invitationals.
The improvement has been remarkable. Anchike transferred to UTRGV from Cloud County Community College, where she was a standout.
Since joining the Vaqueros, she earned SLC Indoor Newcomer of the Year honors and has steadily elevated her times and her conference standing.
Now, as the outdoor season reaches its midpoint, Anchike has positioned herself squarely in the conversation for regional and national-level competition. Her sub-2:04 personal best in the 800 and her sub-4:15 1500m time put her in striking distance of NCAA regional qualifying standards.
For Ghana, Anchike represents a growing presence on the American collegiate track circuit. Her performances this season have already drawn attention from the Ghanaian national federation, with possibilities for future international representation looming.
