Ghana’s Abeku Jackson continued his impressive showing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by booking a place in the semi-finals of the men’s 50m butterfly after a strong performance in the heats on Tuesday, 28 July.
Swimming in Heat 7, Jackson clocked 24.11 seconds, just 0.07 seconds shy of his personal best of 24.04 seconds. His time was enough to finish 14th overall out of 70 competitors, securing an automatic place in the semi-finals.
The qualification adds to what has already been an encouraging campaign for the Ghanaian swimmer. Earlier in the Games, on Friday, 24 July, Jackson produced a personal best and new national record of 26.48 seconds in the 50m backstroke, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals after finishing as the second reserve.
Despite that disappointment, Jackson responded in style in the butterfly event, demonstrating his resilience and consistency against a highly competitive field.
Jackson will now shift his focus to the semi-finals, where he will be aiming to improve on his time and keep alive Ghana’s hopes of reaching the final in the men’s 50m butterfly.
