Exchequers claimed a hard-fought 2–1 win over Police in Week 2 of the Salpholda Hockey League ‘A’ at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch, standing tall in a very tense encounter.
Police came into the game boosted by the return of two players from international duty and showed their intent early, but Exchequers stayed organised and patient. The first quarter ended goalless before the Bankers found their rhythm.
Kofi Okyere Quagraine opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a penalty corner, and Rahman Oddoi doubled the lead five minutes later with a neat field goal.
Police pushed harder and were handed a lifeline penalty stroke and Captain Abbiw Charles stepped up but missed, a key moment that swung the match Exchequers’ way.
A late field goal from Samuel Boadu in the 55th minute gave Police hope, but Exchequers held their shape to the final whistle, with the Akaba brothers and goalkeeper Benjamin Acquah playing key roles.
The win keeps Exchequers on track and sends a clear message that they are ready to compete strongly as the league continues.
