The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey joined hundreds of supporters at the Accra Sports stadium to cheer on the Black Maidens in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying encounter against Liberia.
The Black Maidens thrilled supporters with a spirited performance marked by excellent teamwork to secure an emphatic 6-0 victory in the first leg of the qualifier.
The Minister commended the players for their outstanding display and encouraged them to remain focused as they continue their quest for qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Following the match, the Minister visited the players and technical team to congratulate them on their impressive display and reaffirm government’s continued support for women’s football and the development of young female athletes.
Addressing the team, the Minister conveyed the admiration and encouragement of the Vice President, Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Lordina Mahama. She noted that her visit also fulfilled a promise made during an earlier interaction with the team at Prampram.
She further assured the players that concerns regarding their welfare, career growth and development had been well received and would continue to receive the needed attention. A token was also presented to the team in recognition of their remarkable performance and dedication.
Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the players and technical team for the resounding victory and expressed confidence in their ability to excel in the return leg in Liberia.
