Ghana Athletics Unveils 13-Member Squad for 2026 Commonwealth Games

Ghana Athletics has officially announced a 13-member team to represent the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

The squad, unveiled in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee, features a blend of experienced international athletes and emerging talents, reflecting the federation’s commitment to developing world-class competitors capable of excelling on the international stage.

The team will compete across sprints, hurdles, middle-distance races, relays and field events. The selected athletes and their respective events are:

Deborah Acheampong – Women’s 100m and 4x100m relay

Anita Afrifa – Women’s 200m and 4x100m relay

Evonne Britton – Women’s 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay

Rose Yeboah – Women’s High Jump

Joseph Amoah – Men’s 200m and 4x100m relay

Benjamin Azamati – Men’s 100m and 4x100m relay

Mustapha Bokpin – Men’s 200m and 4x100m relay

Isaac Botsio – Men’s 100m and 4x100m relay

Mammoudou Baba Seidu – Men’s 400m hurdles

Abdul-Rasheed Saminu – Men’s 100m and 4x100m relay

Abigail Abugire – Women’s 800m

Lovina Ewusi – Women’s 400m hurdles and 4x100m relay

James Dadzie – Men’s 200m and 4x100m relay

According to Ghana Athletics, the Commonwealth Games offer Team Ghana a unique opportunity to compete against some of the finest athletes from across the Commonwealth while showcasing the country’s growing strength in athletics.

The federation expressed confidence in the team’s ability to build on recent successes at continental and international competitions, noting that the athletes head to Glasgow with determination and belief.

The selected athletes earned their places through a rigorous qualification process, producing outstanding performances during national trials and recent competitions. Ghana Athletics said the final squad reflects not only athletic excellence but also the discipline, hard work and commitment required to compete at the highest level.

With less than two weeks to the opening ceremony, Ghana Athletics has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Team Ghana as the athletes chase success and seek to add another memorable chapter to the nation’s proud history at the Commonwealth Games.
