The Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) has officially announced the final squad that will represent Ghana at the Africa U-18 Hockey5s Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6–8 August 2026.
Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Isaac Graham , a member of the Executive Board of the Ghana Hockey Association described the selection of the team as another important milestone in the Association’s long-term commitment to youth hockey development.“This championship is far more than a competition; it is a vital platform for identifying, nurturing and preparing the next generation of Ghanaian hockey players. By exposing our young athletes to high-level international competition, we are building a sustainable pathway to our senior national teams and securing the future of hockey in Ghana,” he said.
He noted that the majority of the selected players were identified during the National SHS & Colleges Hockey Championship held last year, describing the championship as a testament to the success of the Ghana Hockey Association’s grassroots development strategy.“Platforms like the National SHS & Colleges Hockey Championships continues to prove its value as an effective talent identification platform. The girls selected earned their places through their outstanding performances at the competition as well as other trials demonstrating the importance of investing in school sports as the foundation of national team development.”
The Board Member also expressed the Association’s sincere appreciation to the Ghana Education Service, school authorities, teachers, coaches and parents for their unwavering support in allowing the student-athletes to balance academics with sports.“We are deeply grateful to the Ghana Education Service for its continued collaboration and commitment to school sports. Their support has made it possible for these talented young girls to pursue both academic excellence and sporting success. Together, we are creating opportunities that will benefit not only hockey but the nation as a whole.”
The Ghana Hockey Association congratulates all the players who participated in the selection process and wishes the final squad every success as they prepare to proudly represent Ghana in Kenya. The Association calls on all Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they compete on the continental stage.
