The Salpholda Hockey League 2026 returned to action on Saturday, July 18, after a one-week break for the annual T Tommy Championship in Kumasi, with Week 8 fixtures producing thrilling encounters across the men’s and women’s divisions at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch.
In the women’s division, Extinguishers defeated Ark Ladies 3-1, with Joanita Korwu and Racheal Bamfo getting on the scoresheet for the winners, while Sadia Gbati scored Ark Ladies’ consolation goal. Reformers were ruthless against the University side, recording a massive 16-0 victory. Gloria Darko led the demolition with four goals, while Helena Odi and Benedicta Adjei scored three each. Theresa Mills and Esther Osei added two goals apiece, with Clementine Odonkorteye and Rosemond Quansah scoring once each.
The much-anticipated women’s clash between GRA and Police lived up to expectations as the two sides battled in a fiercely contested service rivalry. GRA made a quick start, with Rafiatu Okine opening the scoring through a penalty corner in the second minute. Vivian Narkuor doubled the advantage with a field goal before Maclean Rebecca added a third. Police responded through Doreen Owusu in the 44th minute and Elliasu Rakia in the 50th minute, but GRA held on to secure a 3-2 victory and all three points.
In the men’s division, Army began their campaign with a commanding 4-0 win over Arkmen. Sylvester Apronti scored twice from penalty corners, while Addison Abdellah and Abdul Malik added a goal each through field goals. Exchequers also enjoyed a dominant outing, defeating Hockey is the Reason 6-1, while the University of Ghana and Legonknights played out a 1-1 draw.
The final fixture of the day saw another intense GRA-Police battle, this time in the men’s division. Police took the lead in the 24th minute through Samuel Boadu, but GRA fought back and equalised in the 39th minute through Christopher Dogbe.
With the match heading into a tense finish, Police were awarded a penalty stroke in the 58th minute, and Isaac Amoah made no mistake from the spot to restore Police’s lead and secure a hard-fought victory.
A total of 41 goals were scored across the two divisions, with 25 goals recorded in the women’s division and 16 in the men’s division as the Salpholda Hockey League continues to gather momentum.
