Medeama SC have been crowned Champions of Champions after defeating MTN FA Cup winners Nations FC 2-0 at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday, August 30, in the curtain-raiser for the 2026/27 Ghana football season.
The fixture, which brought together the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League champions and MTN FA Cup winners, served as the curtain-raiser for the new domestic football season.
Medeama took the lead in the 28th minute after a defensive error by Nations FC resulted in a penalty.
Defender Fatawu Sulemana stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give the Premier League champions a 1-0 advantage going into the break.
Nations FC returned from the interval hoping to find an equaliser, but Medeama remained composed and continued to search for a second goal.
Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when new signing Emmanuel Annor doubled the advantage with a sublime finish against his former club.
Nations FC pushed forward in search of a comeback or consolation goal, but Medeama’s defence held firm to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory and another piece of silverware.
The triumph gives Medeama their second major domestic trophy of 2026, having earlier secured the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title. They now begin the new campaign with confidence and momentum ahead of a demanding season.
Attention will quickly turn to the continental stage, with Medeama set to host Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie on Sunday, September 6, at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa. The match is scheduled for 3:00pm.
The Champion of Champions victory therefore provides the Mauve and Yellows with the perfect boost as they prepare for their latest African challenge.
