The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Braves maintained their flawless start to the 2026 Accra Basketball League season with a commanding 85-36 victory over Navy Women in their Week 11 clash at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Friday, July 10.
The highly anticipated top-of-the-table encounter attracted executives from the Ghana Basketball Association(GBBA), Accra Basketball League officials, representatives of both clubs, and passionate basketball fans who witnessed two unbeaten sides battle for supremacy.
Heading into the contest, GRA topped the women’s standings with 14 points from seven matches without defeat, while Navy occupied third place with 12 points from six games, also boasting an unbeaten record.
GRA wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing to a 21-9 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Their relentless defence and efficient offence continued in the second period as they stretched the advantage to 45-14 by halftime.
Navy returned after the break with renewed determination in search of a comeback, but the Braves remained in complete control. GRA extended their lead to 65-26 at the end of the third quarter before sealing an emphatic 85-36 victory in the final period, handing Navy their first defeat of the season while preserving their own unbeaten record.
GRA head coach Richard Borsah credited the team’s success to their demanding training routine and international exposure. “The motivation comes not just from our management but from the amount of energy we put into training. We train from Monday to Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day, and it’s a very hard training environment. I’m not the soft type of coach, so the players know what is expected of them. Everything we practise shows in our games through our energy and execution.” “Navy are a very good team, but because of the level we have pushed ourselves to, it is very difficult for teams to catch up with us. Our international exposure has also played a key role in our performance, and we are grateful to our management for giving us those opportunities.”
Despite the heavy defeat, Navy head coach Alexander Tindana remained positive and praised his players for sticking to the game plan. “We have something we call strategy, and we tried to implement everything we have been working on. This is a developmental team, and unlike GRA, we don’t have equal strength across all 12 players. Even with that, we executed our strategy well. Had they not possessed that level of physical strength and quality, it would have been much easier for us, but I am pleased with the effort my players put in.” “When we realised they were breaking through our press, we adjusted by playing a zone defence, which reduced their penetration into the key. We managed to recover after the difficult first quarter, and I believe there are positives to take from this game. We are still in second place with only one defeat, and I am confident we can finish strongly by beating Efforts in our final match.”
GRA’s Ruth Azumah was named Player of the Match after an outstanding all-round performance, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals to inspire the Braves to another convincing victory.
