Team Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games got underway on Friday with action in swimming, para powerlifting and boxing, highlighted by an impressive performance from national swimming captain Abeiku Jackson.

Competing in the men’s 50m butterfly, Jackson produced a brilliant swim to clock 26.28 seconds, setting a new national record and a personal best, eclipsing his previous national mark of 26.97 seconds.
Although he finished seventh in his heat, Jackson’s time was enough to secure qualification to the semi-finals as the second reserve, keeping Ghana’s hopes alive in the competition.
In the women’s 50m butterfly, Ghana’s Nubia Adjei recorded a time of 30.02 seconds to finish eighth in her heat. Unfortunately, her performance was not enough to earn a place in the next stage, bringing her campaign in the event to an end.

Swimming, para powerlifting and boxing marked the start of Team Ghana’s participation at the Games, with more athletes expected to compete in the coming days as the nation pursues medals in Glasgow.
