Ghana’s Black Satellites have been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire after being held to a goalless draw by Togo in their final Group B match on Sunday, August 2.
The Black Satellites entered the encounter knowing that only a victory would keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive. However, despite showing determination and enjoying spells of possession, Maxwell Konadu’s side could not find the breakthrough as Togo held firm for a share of the spoils.
Ghana’s campaign got off to a difficult start with a 4-2 defeat to defending champions Nigeria. The team responded with an encouraging 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso, keeping their qualification hopes alive heading into the decisive final group match.
Against Togo, the Black Satellites pushed for the all-important winner but lacked the clinical edge in the final third. Their inability to convert chances ultimately proved costly as the final whistle confirmed their exit from the competition.
Despite the disappointment, Mohammed Zaidan continued to impress with another outstanding display, earning his second consecutive Man of the Match award. The forward’s consistency throughout the tournament was one of the few bright spots for Ghana.The Black Satellites bow out of the championship with two points from three matches, falling short of a place in the knockout stage.
Attention will now shift to future assignments as the technical team reflects on lessons from the tournament and continues preparations for upcoming youth competitions.
