Ghana’s James Dadzie delivered a commanding performance to win Heat 9 of the men’s 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing his place in the next round with an impressive display of speed and composure.
Running with confidence, Dadzie crossed the finish line first in 20.65 seconds, edging out Gabon’s G. Maganga Gorra, who finished second in 20.69 seconds, in one of the closest finishes of the opening heats.
The Ghanaian sprinter executed a controlled race, maintaining his form through the bend before producing a strong finish to hold off the late challenge from the Gabonese athlete.
Dadzie’s qualification continues Ghana’s encouraging campaign in the sprint events, with the nation producing several standout performances on the track at the Games. His victory keeps Ghana firmly in contention for honours in the men’s 200m as the competition moves into the next stage.
With momentum on his side, Dadzie will now turn his attention to the semifinals, where he will be aiming to secure a place in the final and continue Ghana’s pursuit of medals in Glasgow.
