The Ghana Football Association has formally brought the curtain down on Malta Guinness’s four-year headline sponsorship of the Ghana Women’s Premier League, describing the partnership as a transformative period in the growth and visibility of women’s football in the country.
The sponsorship, which began in the 2022/23 season and runs through the end of the 2025/26 campaign, has been widely hailed as one of the most impactful partnerships in the history of women’s football in Ghana. In August 2022, the GFA officially announced Malta Guinness as headline sponsor of the Women’s Premier League in a deal valued at GH₵10 million. The package covered league branding, financial support, and a range of promotional and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the visibility and growth of the women’s game.

Speaking on the impact of the partnership, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Esq. commended the beverage giant for its unwavering commitment to women’s football. “Since coming on board as headline sponsors, Malta Guinness has contributed immensely to the growth of the women’s game through financial support, branding, visibility, and various promotional activities that enhanced the league’s development,” he said.
The sponsorship, which officially comes to an end this June, has been credited with significantly raising the profile and competitiveness of the league. Over the four seasons, the Women’s Premier League enjoyed increased media attention, improved standards of play, and greater recognition for players and clubs both locally and internationally.
On behalf of the GFA, league clubs, and key stakeholders, Addo expressed deep appreciation to Malta Guinness for a partnership he described as mutually beneficial. “Our relationship with Malta Guinness has been so successful that both parties are of the view that the giant beverage company will still play some form of significant role in Ghana football during the season,” he added.
Beyond visibility and branding, the competitive balance of the league also reflected the growth witnessed during the sponsorship period. The league produced three different champions across its zones: Ampem Darkoa Ladies emerged champions from the Northern Zone in the 2022/23 and 2025/26 seasons, while Hasaacas Ladies claimed the Southern Zone title in 2023/24. Police Ladies followed with victory in the 2024/25 season.
Attention now turns to the future, with the Association confirming that plans are far advanced to unveil a new and improved sponsorship package for the Women’s Premier League ahead of the 2026/27 season. Details of the incoming sponsor are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
