Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has fulfilled a long-standing promise by presenting US$3,000 to Black Bombers captain Abdul Wahid Omar for his bronze medal-winning performance at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The presentation was made during the Minister’s visit to Team Ghana’s camp in Glasgow, Scotland, where he interacted with athletes and officials ahead of the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Hon. Adams said the gesture reflects the government’s commitment to rewarding athletes who have brought honour to the nation and ensuring that outstanding performances are duly recognized, even years after they were achieved.
Receiving the cash reward, Abdul Wahid Omar expressed his appreciation to the Minister and the Ministry for fulfilling the promise, describing it as a source of motivation as he prepares to represent Ghana once again on the Commonwealth stage.
The experienced boxer, who captains the Black Bombers, will lead Ghana’s quest for boxing honours on Friday when he faces Patris Mughalzai of England in the Men’s 65kg Round of 32 bout at SEC Hall 5.
Omar, a bronze medallist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will be hoping to build on that achievement and inspire Team Ghana to another podium finish in Scotland as the country’s boxing campaign gets underway.
