The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) successfully launched the July edition of the RLFG Diva Series on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Accra Girls Senior High School, marking another important milestone in the development of women’s Rugby League in Ghana.

The initiative, which aims to inspire and develop the next generation of female Rugby League players, brought together nearly 70 young athletes for a day of learning, competition and personal growth. Coaches, match officials, volunteers, parents and supporters were also present to witness the opening chapter of a programme designed to create more opportunities for girls through sport.
More than a tournament, the Diva Series serves as a long-term player development programme that uses Rugby League to teach values such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, responsibility and commitment while identifying talented players for future national team opportunities.

Four teams featured in the July edition: Accra Girls Senior High School, Presbyterian Senior High School, La (LaPRESEC), the Next Gen Team and the Old Guard Team.
The day began with player development sessions before the teams competed in six exciting 9-a-side Touch Rugby League matches.
The Next Gen Team defeated the Old Guard Team 2-0 in the opening fixture. Accra Girls Senior High School edged LaPRESEC 1-0 in the second game before LaPRESEC responded with a 1-0 victory over the Next Gen Team. The Old Guard Team then defeated Accra Girls Senior High School 1-0, while the Next Gen Team recorded a 2-0 win over Accra Girls Senior High School. In the final match of the day, LaPRESEC defeated the Old Guard Team 1-0.

At the end of the July edition, the Next Gen Team emerged as champions to claim 10 series points. LaPRESEC finished as runners-up with eight points, while Accra Girls Senior High School and the Old Guard Team shared third place, with each team receiving six series points.
RLFG Vice President and Diva Series Team Manager, Paulina Buabeng, praised the commitment shown by the participants.

RLFG General Manager Jafaru Mustapha said the programme is laying the foundation for the future of women’s Rugby League in Ghana.
«”There is a lot of talent that has been shown today. The development we are seeing is exactly why the Diva Series was created. This is about creating opportunities and giving players the chance to develop towards representing Ghana on bigger stages, including the 2030 Rugby League World Cup. This programme is here to stay, and we are excited about what the future holds.”»
Attention now turns to the August edition, which will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. All four teams will once again play each other in a round-robin format as they look to improve their positions in the overall Diva Series rankings. With valuable series points still at stake, the race for the inaugural RLFG Diva Series title is expected to become even more competitive.

The RLFG Diva Series forms part of the Rugby League Federation Ghana’s long-term commitment to building a sustainable pathway for women’s Rugby League by increasing participation, identifying talent and creating opportunities for girls to progress from school Rugby League to national team representation.
