The Black Stars of Ghana delivered a disciplined and courageous performance to hold the Three Lions of England to a goalless draw in their second Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Boston.
Both teams came into the clash full of confidence after winning their opening fixtures. England had recorded a 4–2 victory over Croatia, while Ghana edged Panama 1–0, setting up a high-stakes encounter with the group lead on the line. England started the day top of the table with three points and a +2 goal difference, just ahead of Ghana on three points and +1.
The Boston Stadium was filled to capacity with VVIPs, VIPs, and passionate supporters, creating a charged atmosphere for one of the most anticipated games of the group stage.

Ghana started the match with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who earned his first full World Cup start after coming off the bench in the second half of the opening game against Panama. The Black Stars also welcomed back Thomas Partey, who returned to the starting lineup after missing the opening match against Panama.
England dominated possession in the first half and created several scoring opportunities, but Ghana’s defensive organization and resilience stood firm. The first 45 minutes ended goalless, with the Black Stars successfully absorbing sustained pressure from the Europeans.
After the break, head coach Carlos Queiroz maintained a compact and disciplined approach, instructing his side to remain solid and patient. Ghana continued to frustrate England, and after 90 minutes plus six minutes of added time, the final whistle confirmed a hard-earned point for the Black Stars. The result brought back memories of the last meeting between the two sides, a friendly on 29 March 2011, which also ended in a draw. On that occasion, Andy Carroll scored for England before Asamoah Gyan grabbed a late equaliser for Ghana.
After two matches, England remain top of Group L on four points with a +2 goal difference, while Ghana sit second with the same points but a +1 goal difference.
Ghana will now turn their attention to their final group match against Croatia on Saturday, 26 June, at 9:00 pm local time. A win or a draw will be enough to secure a place in the Round of 32, as the Black Stars continue their quest for a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
