In a routine inspection aimed at assessing the progress and needs of key sports infrastructure, the Hon. Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, along with the management of the Ministry, paid a visit to the newly constructed Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Abiriw, situated within the Okere District of the Eastern Region.
The state-of-the-art sports facility is designed to serve both athletic and community purposes, offering a range of amenities to promote sports development and community engagement in the region. The tour provided an opportunity for officials to evaluate the current status of the complex and identify the interventions required to ensure its full operationalization.
The complex’s Phase 1 includes a fully equipped football pitch featuring players’ seats, goalposts, and boreholes to support water needs. This foundational stage aims to provide a functional sports ground for local teams and community events.
Looking ahead, Phase Two of the project will expand the facility’s capabilities with the addition of changing rooms, offices, and a multi-purpose court accompanied by a stand. The phase also encompasses the construction of a four-lane amateur athletic track with an inner perimeter concrete U-drain, a football spectator stand, and external works to enhance accessibility and aesthetics.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation remains committed to developing sports infrastructure that nurtures talent, promotes healthy lifestyles, and fosters community spirit. The ongoing assessment and subsequent interventions will ensure that the Abiriw Sports Complex becomes a vibrant hub for sports and community activities in the Eastern Region.
