Bono Table Tennis Athlete Naomi Makes History at Maiden Dambai Table Tennis Championships

The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority is celebrates a remarkable achievement by its young table tennis sensation, Naomi Yebaoah, following her outstanding performance at the Dambai Table Tennis Championships 2026.

The championship was held on 30th May, 2026, at the Tamale Senior High School Old Assembly Hall in Tamale and attracted some of the nation’s finest table tennis talents.

Representing the Bono Region, Eric “Ma Long” Amoah delivered a memorable performance by defeating West African bronze medalist Hamza Issah before narrowly missing out on further progress after losing his subsequent match to Samuel Hagan.

Another promising athlete, Godfred Oteng, who was making his debut appearance, faced a tough challenge in the Under-19 category, where he lost his opening match to a national team player. Despite the setback, he managed to secure one victory during the championship, gaining valuable experience for future competitions.

The highlight of the championship, however, was the extraordinary performance of Naomi Yeboah a student of Bezaleel Educational Complex in Sunyani, who was participating in the competition for the very first time. Defying expectations, she stunned competitors and spectators alike by finishing third in the Women’s Category, an achievement that earned her a place on the podium.

Her exceptional display throughout the tournament further earned her the prestigious Discovery of the Championship Award, making her one of the biggest success stories of the event.

In recognition of her achievement, Naomi was presented with a medal, certificate, and cash prize.

The Bono contingent was led by Table Tennis Coach Kwadwo Fredua Agyeman, whose guidance and commitment continue to contribute to the development of the sport within the region.

Naomi’s historic achievement serves as a testament to the immense talent emerging from the Bono Region and reinforces the importance of continued investment in grassroots sports development. Her success is expected to inspire many young athletes across the region to pursue excellence in table tennis and other sporting disciplines.
