Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has completed a sensational move to newly promoted English Premier League side Coventry City from Danish club FC Nordsjælland.
The 20-year-old has joined the Sky Blues in a club-record deal worth €27 million upfront, with a further €3 million in potential add-ons, taking the overall package to €30 million. The transfer represents a major statement of intent from Coventry ahead of their return to the Premier League. Yirenkyi becomes Coventry City’s most expensive signing, surpassing the club’s previous transfer record by a significant margin.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s rise has been rapid. After developing through the Right to Dream Academy, he joined Nordsjælland and made his senior debut in September 2024 against Viborg in the Danish Superliga. He quickly established himself as one of the club’s promising young talents and earned recognition for his performances in Denmark.
His progress also earned him a call-up to the Black Stars, making his senior international debut in 2025. Since then, Yirenkyi has become part of Ghana’s emerging generation and was included in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. At the World Cup, the midfielder further enhanced his reputation, scoring for Ghana in their opening game against Panama, adding another major milestone to his young career.
His move to Coventry now gives Yirenkyi the opportunity to test himself in one of the biggest leagues in world football, having made the journey from the Right to Dream Academy to Denmark and now the English Premier League in just a few years.
Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, have made Yirenkyi one of their biggest investments as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. The club have reportedly been impressed by his performances and potential, making the Ghanaian a key part of their plans for the new campaign.
