Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games received a major boost as 2024 SWAG Boxer of the Year, Amadu Mohammed, cruised into the men’s bantamweight (55kg) quarter-finals with a dominant first-round victory over Eriu Temakau of Kiribati. Amadu was named SWAG Boxer of the Year at the 49th SWAG Awards in January 2025, recognising his outstanding performances.
The Ghanaian wasted no time asserting his dominance, forcing the referee to stop the contest (RSC) just 57 seconds into the opening round after overwhelming his opponent with a barrage of punches.
The emphatic victory books Amadu a place in the quarter-finals as he moves one step closer to a Commonwealth Games medal. He will now await the winner of the remaining preliminary bout in the 55kg division.
Amadu returns to the ring on Tuesday, July 28, where he will fight for a place in the semi-finals and move within touching distance of a podium finish for Team Ghana.
