Ghana’s sprint star Benjamin Azamati has booked his place in the men’s 100m final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after producing another impressive performance in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening.
Azamati clocked 10.00 seconds to secure automatic qualification, finishing among the top athletes in a highly competitive semi-final field. Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme led the qualifiers with a world-class 9.89s, while Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi and Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy both posted 9.94s. Azamati’s 10.00s was enough to seal his place in the race for medals.
The qualification marks another significant milestone in the Ghanaian’s remarkable comeback after an injury ruled him out of the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships on home soil. Missing the continental championship was a major setback for one of Ghana’s brightest medal prospects, but the 26-year-old has responded in style on the Commonwealth stage.

Earlier in the day, Azamati confidently won Heat Five of the first round in 10.00 seconds, announcing his return to top form and progressing comfortably to the semi-finals. He backed that performance up with another 10.00s in the evening to keep Ghana’s hopes alive.
With a place in the final now secured, Azamati will line up against some of the fastest men in the Commonwealth, aiming to add another memorable chapter to his career and challenge for a place on the podium.

All eyes will now be on the Ghanaian speedster as he bids to deliver a historic medal for Team Ghana in one of the Games’ most anticipated events.
