The Wa Central Prison men’s football team under the leadership of the Regional Commander/OIC DDP. Alhaji Ousmane Tasembedo (Esq) secured a second place position in the men’s football competition whilst the ladies volleyball team was crowned champion in this year’s Wa-Naa Inter-Security Peace/Unity Games.
The 4 days event was organized by Kaa-Wulisung Advocacy Group under the auspices of His Royal Majesty, the Wa-Naa, Fuseini Pelpuo IV.
The event which took place from 22-25 May, 2026 at the BK ADAMA Multipurpose Sports Stadium is part of efforts aimed at promoting and sustaining peace & Unity among the sister security services.
The Unity Games covered various sporting activities including football, valleyball, Tug-of-Peace and athletics(100m and 200m) for both men and women.
The participating institutions included; the 10 Mechanized Battalions, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Aviation, NADMO and CEPS of Ghana Revenue Authority.
In his opening address, the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Pousuing(Esq) reiterated that the event was meant to promote physical fitness and to further deepen the already existing institutional relationship among the security services in the region.
Flanked by the RESEC members, the Hon. Regional Minister urged all participants to uphold fair play and discipline.
The Prisons men football team started their journey to the top through an impressive performance. They sailed to the finals by eliminating their Police counterparts in a 4-2 penalty shootouts in the Semi-finals and later lost 0-2 to the Battalions in the finals whiles their female volleyball team beat their Fire Service counterparts 2-0 to lift the trophy.
Some of the Prisons players who received awards included 2CO Anatu Jimmah, who won the best volleyball player medal, L/CPL Elizabeth Yendeme took gold for the 100m and silver for the 200m whiles PSA Elisabeth Dogoli claimed bronze in 200m.
DDP Alhaji Ousmane Tasembedo Esq. commended the organizers of the Games for the brilliant initiative and also applauded his players for uplifting the image of the Service through sporting activities.
