The Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation, accompanied by a delegation from the Japan Africa Baseball & Softball Foundation, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation on Monday, August 10th, 2026.
Led by Mr. Shinya Tomonari, President of the Japan Africa Baseball & Softball Foundation, a sports diplomat and advocate for the development of baseball and softball in Africa, the delegation outlined the purpose of the meeting. He emphasized that the visit aimed to introduce the federation to the Ministry and to discuss upcoming initiatives, including coaching workshops, youth tournaments, and exchange programs. These initiatives are designed to enable Ghanaian players and coaches to learn from their Japanese counterparts.
Mr. Tomonari highlighted that baseball is a major sport in Japan, even surpassing football in popularity. He noted that baseball is more than just a game; it promotes teamwork, discipline, and essential life skills.
Madam. Fati Lily Soale, Chief Director at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Minister. She acknowledged the significance of baseball and softball as tools for youth engagement, fostering teamwork, and instilling discipline. Madam Fati Lily Soale assured the delegation of the government’s support in integrating these sports into Ghana’s broader sports development framework.
